FDA Seeks Comments on Foodborne Listeria in Soft-Ripened Cheese

The Food and Drug Administration is seeking comments and scientific data that would help the agency to prepare a risk assessment for Listeria monocytogenes in soft-ripened cheese. IDFA will work with the National Cheese Institute's Regulatory Committee and NCI members to gather information about the manufacture and marketing of soft-ripened cheese, including the current good manufacturing practices and food safety programs used by processors to control the risks related to Listeria monocytogenes.

"IDFA supports FDA's efforts to manage and reduce the risk of potential foodborne illness, such as Listeriosis, by using the most current scientific data available," said Cary Frye, IDFA vice president of regulatory affairs.

The deadline for filing comments is January 28, 2008.
