Food Safety & Defense
Advancing Food Safety and Defense
The safety of the world's food supply captured international attention recently, starting with the Chinese melamine scandal in August of 2008 and continuing this year with the nationwide recall of products from Peanut Corporation of America and a warning on pistachios from the Food and Drug Administration. These episodes ignited consumer concern, congressional hearings and new legislation offering a range of remedies.
Within regulatory agencies, on Capitol Hill and through the media, IDFA continues to reinforce the good manufacturing practices and rigorous food safety protocols that are already employed by dairy processors. By following comprehensive food-safety and security programs, such as the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and the Safe Quality Foods Initiative programs, IDFA members ensure the production of safe food products, as well as customer, third-party and regulatory compliance.
