Providing Healthy Products and a Healthy Planet
IDFA continues to play an active and leading role in supporting the industry's long history of environmental stewardship. At the same time, we’re challenging unnecessary and burdensome regulations that do little to enhance overall public safety.
Demonstrating a depth of collaboration and commitment, IDFA and other dairy leaders recently agreed to support a groundbreaking and comprehensive initiative that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by the year 2020. That goal is equivalent to taking more than 1.25 million passenger cars off the road every year.
The initiative is a project of the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy, an organization that brings together the leadership of the entire dairy industry, including producers, dairy cooperatives, processors and manufacturers. More than 500 stakeholders, including many IDFA member companies, have joined to date.
Each of the initiative's projects are designed to build business value and meet consumer demand for green products by reducing energy use, increasing efficiency and helping the industry tap into new sources of income. While the initial effort focused on fluid milk, IDFA and National Cheese Institute members have made great strides toward establishing a carbon footprint for cheese as well.
