Overview

National nutrition policy is swirling. Food safety oversight is becoming more stringent. Congress is facing major shifts in the wake of the mid-term elections. And the next farm bill is coming up quickly, providing the opportunity for long-term policy changes for dairy.

IDFA has its finger on the pulse of the dairy industry, knows the issues and provides access to influential leaders. Through its educational programs, subject-matter experts and annual premier events - Dairy Forum and the International Dairy Show -- IDFA keeps dairy professionals up-to-date on pressing policy and operational issues, latest trends and industry innovation.

Dairy Forum 2011 will bring together the leadership of the entire dairy industry for three days of policy discussions. Its impressive list of speakers to date includes: Clinton Anderson, partner, Bain & Company; Thomas Bell, chairman, U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Charlie Cook, editor and publisher, The Cook Political Report; Tony Maher, chairman, Wimm-Bill-Damm; Gustavo Valle, president and CEO, The Dannon Company, Inc.; and George Zoghbi, president, cheese and dairy, Kraft Foods N.A., Inc. ART DECO TOUR AND SHOPPING IN SOUTH BEACH

8:00 a.m. - Noonart deco

Encounter the Art Deco tour that captures the glitz and glamour of the roaring twenties and thirties in our nation's only Art Deco Historic District. This is your chance to experience the thrill of a city that defiantly danced ‘til dawn through the prohibition, the depression, major hurricanes, and two World Wars. Miami Beach has the largest Art Deco district in America with buildings being restored daily. The day begins with a comprehensive driving tour of the
area, the nation's youngest historic district. With 800 plus buildings, the square mile Art Deco district is the only 20th century historic area listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. This area was rapidly developed during the 1930s, leading to a concentration of buildings with similar styles, setback and scale. The most notable change in the area is the blooming of pastel colors on the facades of buildings throughout the district. As your guide uncovers the eye-popping history of this unique destination, you will understand why millionaires, movie stars, thousands of soldiers, and countless others have fallen under the magical spell of Miami Beach.

Cost: $63 per person

VILLA VIZCAYA MUSEUM AND GARDENS TOUR

12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Villa Vizcaya stands majestically on the edge of Biscayne Bay, buffered from modern day Miami by one of the few native hammock forests remaining in South Florida. Described as the most beautiful private home ever built in America, Vizcaya was the winter residence of American industrialist James Deering from Christmas 1916 until his death in 1925. The house has 34 rooms that display fine period furniture and accessories from the Renaissance through the neoclassic periods. The formal Italian gardens, which took seven years to complete, were designed by a landscape architect born in Colombia and educated in Florence. The house was intended to appear as an Italian estate that had stood for 400 years and had been occupied and renovated by several generations of a family. It appears to be only two stories high but between the main public rooms and the bedrooms, there is an intervening level with 12 rooms for servants and service. The expansivevilla gardens combine elements of Renaissance Italian and French designs. The 10 acres of formal gardens invite contemplation and reflection. The sculptures, balustrades, and decorative urns are poised in silence while the fountains and pools bubble. Your guests will be taken on a personally guided tour of this magnificent architectural design and view the extraordinary private collection of European decorative arts, period furniture and magnificent tapestries.

Cost: $63 per person

Includes: Admission to Vizcaya, guided tour, round-trip transportation.
