4:00 p.m. From Cow to Consumer: The Life Cycle of Sustainable Packaging
Packaging has always been vital to the success of any product, from how well it protects your product to how well it appeals to the consumer. Sustainable packaging is today’s ideal, but what is it and does it work for milk? This workshop uses the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to help you understand the importance of packaging in the life cycle of fluid milk. Our expert will explore incremental vs. transformational innovations in packaging. You’ll hear mini case studies about companies that have used source reduction and recycling to reduce their carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse gasses – all while remaining attractive to the consumer. It’s a life cycle you won’t want to miss!

Speaker: Gail Barnes, Vice President Technology & Packaging, Dairy Management Inc.
4:00 p.m. Energy Intelligence: the Missing Link? Demystifying Methods of Effective Energy Data Collection and Management
Is your company “energy intelligent?” Every company needs to approach its energy assets with a plan, and many dairy industry leaders are scrutinizing energy use and carbon emissions. But what is your company’s energy intelligence? This new way of approaching your company’s energy consumption has far reaching ramifications for success in a world of carbon legislation, sustainability and rising and volatile energy costs.
Even with energy analysts and analytics already in place at your facility, there is always innovation in the technology sector. New solutions, currently available and currently in deployment, will be the focus of this session. Immediate, real-time data and the ability to convert the analytics into actionable, measurable metrics will be the focus, which will include 1-2 working examples in the industry, as well as lessons from the field. This session includes:
  • Components of a successful Energy Intelligence Plan
  • Methods for an integrated solution – collection and management
