Between the release in January of the final rule on nutrition standards for school meals and the anticipated release of a proposed rule on nutrition standards for competitive foods, the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued an interesting report that gives a snapshot of dairy products acquired by schools for both meals and competitive sales.
The School Food Purchase Study-III is the third in a series of studies that provides national estimates of the amount and monetary value of foods and beverages acquired by public schools for school meals and for competitive food sales. This study is based on data collected during the 2009-2010 school year, and it can provide some comparisons to the last time the study was conducted, during the 1996-1997 school year. … Read More
